Trump’s solution to cyberattacks: Send info via courier

President-elect Donald Trump told reporters on Saturday that messages “should be sent via courier like in the old days” to ensure security.

“It’s very important, if you have something really important, write it out and have it delivered by courier, the old fashioned way because I’ll tell you what, no computer is safe,” Trump responded when asked about the importance of cybersecurity, according to pool reporters.

“I don’t care what they say, no computer is safe. I have a boy who’s 10 years old, he can do anything with a computer. You want something to really go without detection, write it out and have it sent by courier,” Trump reiterated.

Trump was asked about cybersecurity Saturday after the Obama administration this week announced sanctions on Russia over the hacking of Democratic groups leading up to Trump’s electoral win.

The White House on Thursday issued sanctions against Russia, including expelling 35 Russian officials and shuttering two sites believed to be used for Russian intelligence purposes.

On Friday, The Washington Post reported that Russian hackers had also breached a Vermont utility.

Trump’s team has said it takes hacking and election interference seriously, but that it is still uncertain about Russia’s role in the hacking.

Trump spoke to reporters Saturday while in Florida, where he has been celebrating the holidays and is ringing in the new year.
