Pa. congressman floated for Transportation secretary: report
Rep. Lou Barletta (R-Pa.), an early supporter of Donald Trump, is under consideration to be the president-elect’s Transportation secretary, a source told Politico on Monday.
{mosads}Berletta, who is a member of the House Transportation Committee, is scheduled to meet with Trump on Tuesday.
Barletta has been assisting in the transition effort as Trump continues to build up his administration. During the campaign, the congressman helped to rally fellow lawmakers to support Trump’s candidacy.
If tapped for the Cabinet role, Barletta would be responsible for dealing with infrastructure spending, an area that Trump had frequently touted on the campaign trail and promised to rebuild the country’s crumbling infrastructure.
Rep. John Mica (R-Fla.), who lost reelection earlier this month, has also been eyeing the post and told reporters a few weeks ago that he spoke with people close to Trump about joining the administration in such a capacity.
