Twitter cracks down on alt-right accounts
Twitter is cracking down on accounts belonging to members of the alt-right movement in the wake of Donald Trump’s victory in the presidential election, USA Today reported Wednesday.
{mosads}The social networking website suspended the accounts of several prominent figures, including Richard Spencer, president of an alt-right think tank.
Spencer, who had a verified account, told The Daily Caller News Foundation that Twitter’s action “is corporate Stalinism.”
“Twitter is trying to airbrush the Alt Right out of existence. They’re clearly afraid. They will fail!” he said.
The crackdown comes after President-elect Trump named Stephen Bannon as his chief strategist and senior counselor.
Bannon previously served as the chairman of Breitbart News, a pro-Trump website associated with the alt-right movement.
“We don’t comment on individual accounts, for privacy and security reasons,” Twitter told USA Today.
Twitter permanently suspended the account of Milo Yiannopoulos, Breitbart’s technology editor, in July after Yiannopoulos encouraged harassment of actress Leslie Jones.
