Trump: ‘Could be some fencing’ in place of border wall

President-elect Donald Trump will consider using fencing for sections of his proposed wall along the U.S.-Mexican border, he told “60 Minutes.”

“For certain areas I would [consider fencing], but certain areas, a wall is more appropriate,” he said in his first national TV interview since winning the election Tuesday.

“I’m very good at this, it’s called construction,” Trump told Lesley Stahl in a portion of the interview released Sunday morning.

“There could be some fencing,” Trump said.

The billionaire made immigration a focal point of his campaign, promising to erect a wall on the country’s border with Mexico when he announced his candidacy in June of 2015. In rallies, he would boast about how tall and strong the wall would be, and promised he’d get Mexico to pay for it.

Trump told “60 Minutes” that after securing the border, he would begin to address the undocumented immigrants already in the country.

“After the border is secured and after everything gets normalized, we’re going to make a determination on the people that you’re talking about who are terrific people, they’re terrific people but we are going make a determination at that,” he said.
