Ex-GOP rivals phone Trump after win

President-elect Donald Trump is rebuilding his relations with former GOP foes who had been critical of the Republican’s candidacy.

According to CNN, Trump has had phone conversations with 2012 GOP nominee Mitt Romney, Ohio Gov. John Kasich and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush in the past 24 hours.

All three Republicans have also congratulated Trump on his victory on social media the day after the election but are now following up with phone calls with the president-elect.

According to the report, the phone calls were described as cordial messages of congratulations.

All three Republicans were vocal critics of Trump throughout his presidential campaign.

Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts, blasted Trump for his rhetoric about minorities and refused to endorse him, tearing into Trump’s refusal to release his tax returns.

Kasich did not attend the Republican National Convention that was held in his home state of Ohio, where Trump officially accepted the Republican nomination in July.

Bush had heated confrontations with Trump on the debate stage, with Trump often attacking other members of the Bush family including his brother, former President George W. Bush.

Trump has also had recent phone conversations with George W. Bush and George H.W. Bush, who declined to endorse Trump, as well as Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), who eventually endorsed Trump.
