Sanders signals willingness to work with Trump

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) on Wednesday signaled a willingness to work with Donald Trump on certain policies.

{mosads}“To the degree that Mr. Trump is serious about pursuing policies that improve the lives of working families in this country, I and other progressives are prepared to work with him,” the Vermont senator and former presidential candidate said in a statement released Wednesday.

“To the degree that he pursues racist, sexist, xenophobic and anti-environment policies, we will vigorously oppose him.”

Sanders, who endorsed Hillary Clinton earlier this year after dropping his own presidential bid, often attacked Trump in an attempt to paint the candidate as not fit to serve in the White House.

He campaigned for Trump’s Democratic rival during the presidential campaign, making the case for why voters should put Clinton in the White House.

In his statement on Wednesday, Sanders said Trump “tapped into the anger of declining middle class that is sick and tired of establishment economics, establishment politics and the establishment media.”

“People are tired of working longer hours for lower wages, of seeing decent paying jobs go to China and other low-wage countries, of billionaires not paying any federal income taxes and of not being able to afford a college education for their kids,” Sanders said in the statement.

“All while the very rich become much richer.”
