Clinton on if she can be friendly with Trump again: ‘I hope so’
Hillary Clinton said Tuesday that she hopes she can be friendly with Donald Trump after the election.
“I hope so,” she responded on “Mojo in the Morning” when asked if she could be friendly with Trump again, Politico reported.
“I have to confess, I — and I think you could talk to a lot of people in New York who also knew him. We just have been surprised by a lot of what he has said and the kind of things that he’s done in this campaign or that we’ve learned about,” she added.
{mosads}Trump often refers to his Democratic presidential rival as “Crooked Hillary” during rallies and in tweets, and has accused her of corruption while calling her unfit to be president. He has also said that Clinton should go to jail.
Clinton, meanwhile, has called the Republican “temperamentally unfit” to serve as president and has gone after the businessman’s past treatment of and comments about women, often questioning his character.
The two rivals offered some praise for one another during the Alfred E. Smith charity dinner last month, but their rivalry in the bitter presidential race has been a marked departure from around 2005, when Clinton attended Trump’s wedding in Florida.
Cardinal Timothy Dolan said Trump told Clinton she was “one tough and talented woman” during the Al Smith event. Clinton reportedly returned the compliment and told Trump whatever happens, the two “need to work together afterward,” Dolan said.
