Rubio: Americans are feeling betrayed

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) said Monday that this election cycle shows Americans feel betrayed by institutions, the media and elected officials. 

{mosads}”They feel betrayed by elected officials who ran for office and seem insulated from the problems in our country,” Rubio said on “The Hugh Hewitt Show.”

“They feel betrayed by the media, who exhibits clear bias. They feel betrayed by institutions of higher education who are sitting on multimillion-dollar endowments while charging record amounts in tuition,” the senator said.

Rubio, who is currently running a tight reelection race against Rep. Patrick Murphy (D-Fla.), said he doesn’t blame Americans for feeling angry.

“I think both sides are guilty of this, although I think the left has perfected it, and that is the argument that they’re going to delegitimize you as a person,” he said.

“If you don’t agree with them on an issue, you don’t even have a right to have an opinion. You’re a bad human being. And that’s infected our political culture to a point now where people get angry,” Rubio added.

Rubio did not specifically mention either party’s presidential nominee by name but signaled that the current political climate would make the road forward difficult for either candidate after the election.
