Rubio warns Russia of consequences to election meddling
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) said Monday morning that there should be consequences if the Russian government tries to interfere with the U.S. elections.
{mosads}”Yeah, absolutely there should be. And, of course, we need to make a compelling and clear case to the American people that that’s what happened,” Rubio said during a segment on “The Hugh Hewitt Show.”
Last month, the Obama administration formally accused Russia of hacking the Democratic National Committee and attempting to meddle in the American elections.
“And speaking to the Russians in particular, the Russian government — let me be clear, the Putin government — this is a pattern of what they do in many others, like in the former Soviet republics,” the senator added on Monday.
“This is how they get involved in their elections. They try to interfere with — either embarrass people or interfere in the media,” he said.
Rubio also said that making sure everyone views the election results as “legitimate” is a priority.
