Trump wins Arizona
Donald Trump is projected to win Arizona, holding off a late push by Hillary Clinton in the red state.
Holding the state and its 11 electoral votes has been a crucial piece of Trump’s general election strategy, as the Republican nominee needs to hold GOP-leaning states while winning a handful of swing states that Mitt Romney lost in 2012.
{mosads}Trump aggressively courted the state by playing up his tough immigration rhetoric and winning the support of hardline Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio and former Gov. Jan Brewer (R).
But Clinton targeted the state, too, looking to frustrate Trump’s path to victory despite no Democratic presidential candidate having carried the state since 1996. Over the last few weeks, Clinton herself, as well as vice presidential nominee Tim Kaine, Vice President Biden and first lady Michelle Obama, all stumped for the Democratic nominee in the Grand Canyon State.
