Trump mocks earnings drop at NY Times

Donald Trump railed against the media at a Florida rally Wednesday, gleefully mocking the financial situation of The New York Times. 

Trump, the GOP nominee for president, ridiculed the newspaper for its disappointing third quarter earnings, which were announced this week. The Times reported a profit of $406,000, down about 96 percent from $9.4 million a year earlier.

{mosads}“Parenthetically, and very sadly,” Trump told a crowd in Miami, “earnings for the New York Times are down 97 percent this year.”

“They just announced,” he added. “So bad, I feel so badly for them. Ninety-seven percent. Oh they’re doing great.

“And then they tell you who to vote for. They want Crooked Hillary.” 

Trump has repeatedly bashed the Times for its coverage of the election. He threatened to sue the paper last month after it published a story in which two women accused Trump of kissing and groping them without their consent. 

The Republican nominee set up his attack by telling his supporters that an “important issue” in the election “is integrity in journalism.”

Pointing at the journalists assembled in a press pen, he said, as he often does, “These people are among the most dishonest people I’ve ever met, spoken to, done business with.” 

The crowd booed loudly.

Trump paused and dramatically shook his head. He then praised the “very talented Michael Goodwin of the New York Post” for writing a column that described the 2016 presidential race as the “low-water mark of journalism.”

“It’s unbelievable,” Trump said. “For instance, we’ll have a great story. We’ll give it out to the media; they’ll make it look as bad as possible.” 

Trump’s crowd erupted spontaneously into a chant of “CNN sucks.”  

Such chants are breaking out at Trump rallies with increasing regularity. Some of the reporters attending Trump events are now trailed by security guards.
