Mark Cuban: Clinton emails are ‘tempest in a tea pot’

Billionaire entrepreneur Mark Cuban says the FBI’s new probe of emails from Hillary Clinton’s private server will ultimately prove underwhelming.

“[It’s] a tempest in a tea pot,” he told CNBC hosts Carl Quintanilla and Kayla Tausche on “Squawk Alley” Tuesday.

{mosads}“When you look at exactly how she dealt with emails, unless there’s something out of left field we just couldn’t possibly have predicted — you know, [she] said something incorrect in both of those [FBI] interviews — I don’t think there’s anything to worry about,” Cuban added of longtime Clinton aide Huma Abedin.

Cuban said Abedin’s work with Clinton at the State Department is well documented and shows no misconduct.

“The real question was, ‘How does she deal with classified documents?’ ” he said of Clinton, the former secretary of State.

“The definitive answer, over and over again, [was] that she dealt with classified documents via hard copy,” added Cuban, who backs the Democratic presidential nominee.

“If you do the homework, there’s no reason to doubt how she dealt with classified information. Every single document that was properly marked classified was printed out.”

But Cuban said Clinton’s campaign had not handled concern over her private server well with voters.

“I think the Clinton campaign was ridiculous in how they addressed the email problem,” the Dallas Mavericks owner said.

“Again, I don’t think they did a good job dealing with the PR aspect of it. But in reality, if you dig deep and inform yourself, there’s no ‘there’ there.”

FBI Director James Comey sent Congress a letter last Friday telling lawmakers his agency had begun a probe of newly discovered emails from Clinton’s server.

The messages emerged from a separate investigation of Abedin’s estranged husband, former Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.).

Weiner is under FBI scrutiny for allegedly engaging in an online relationship with a 15-year-old girl.

Reports emerged Monday that Abedin does not know how her emails ended up on her estranged spouse’s laptop.
