Trump gives $10 million to campaign

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump on Friday gave his campaign $10 million, shortly after announcing he would do so but demurring on whether he would live up to his promise to spend $100 million of his own money on the election.

In an Instagram post Friday morning, Fox News host Bret Baier wrote that Trump said was planning to write a $10 million check to his campaign but that he “won’t say whether he’ll make it to $100million of his own money.”

“We’ll see what’s needed,” Trump said, according to Baier.

Moments later, reports by CNBC, The Wall Street Journal and others emerged saying Trump indeed wired $10 million to his campaign. 

FEC filings later reflected the $10 million contribution.

The money will go toward TV advertising in key battleground states, the Journal reported.

Trump had given his campaign a total of $56.1 million of his own money — including $47.5 million in loans — as of Oct. 19. He gave his campaign about $30,000 in the first 19 days of the month, according to Federal Election Commission filings released Thursday.

Trump has frequently pledged to spend $100 million of his own money on the election.

During the period covered by Thursday night’s filings,   Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton gave more than $50,000 to her campaign — about $20,000 more than what Trump contributed.

However, Clinton’s total contributions to the campaign — about $1.3 million — is a fraction of Trump’s total.
