Poll: Warren crushing Schilling by 34 points
A new poll suggests Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D) would begin a race against former Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling with a huge head start.
{mosads}The Suffolk University/Boston Globe survey asking people about the hypothetical matchup found Warren leading Schilling 58 percent to 24 percent among likely voters. Another 16 percent said that they were undecided.
While Warren has not officially committed to run for reelection, Schilling said that he will run for office as a Republican if his wife gives him the green light to do so.
The poll found that Schilling is an unpopular figure in the Democratic state, with 41 percent of the voters having an unfavorable view of the potential GOP candidate.
Another 28 percent of responders said that they are undecided about Schilling, and 18 percent said that they have a favorable view of the former baseball star.
In 2012, Warren defeated Republican incumbent Scott Brown, securing 54 percent of the vote.
She has since become a popular figure among progressives and millennials and was on the list of potential running mates for Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.
Schilling, suffering from an injury, famously pitched the Red Sox to victory in the 2004 World Series in the “bloody sock” game.
