Obama jabs Samsung over phones that catch fire
President Obama on Thursday used a discussion about ObamaCare to poke fun at Samsung’s smartphones that were recalled after instances of catching on fire.
{mosads}Obama was comparing ObamaCare to a new device with bugs, saying the right thing to do is fix the bugs instead of throwing out the entire concept.
“When one of these companies comes out with a new phone and it has a few bugs, what do they do? They fix it. They upgrade it,” Obama said during an event in Miami.
“Unless it catches fire. Then they just — then they pull it off the market,” he added, to laughs.
Obama advocated ripped calls to repeal ObamaCare entirely, making a further comparison to smartphones.
“But you don’t go back to using a rotary phone! You don’t say we’re repealing smartphones. We’re just gonna do the dial-up thing. It’s not what you do. The same basic principle applies here. We are not going to go back to discriminating against Americans with preexisting conditions,” he said.
Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphones were recalled from the market this year after widespread complaints of the devices catching on fire.
Numerous transportation services, including some airlines, prohibit the usage of the smartphone during trips.
