Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump will accept the results of the election only if they are “legit,” top supporter Sarah Palin said Wednesday.
{mosads}Palin, who attended Wednesday’s final presidential debate as a guest of Trump, responded afterward to his suggestion that he wouldn’t concede the race if he loses.
“Hey, if they’re legit results, then of course they’ll be accepted,” Palin, the GOP’s 2008 vice presidential nominee, told Yahoo News.
“But like Donald said, I think what he was suggesting was we better take a look at everything at the end of the day and make sure that everything is legit — at the end of the day when everyone who has been allowed to take that honest vote, then yeah, we accept the results of the election, if they’re fair.”
Trump stunned onlookers at Wednesday’s debate when he said he would “keep you in suspense” about whether he would concede if he loses.
“I will look at it at the time,” the GOP nominee said.
“That’s horrifying,” Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton responded.
As Trump trails in the polls, he has begun to question the legitimacy of the U.S. electoral system, suggesting that wide-spread voter fraud would steal the presidency from him.
“Of course there is large scale voter fraud happening on and before election day. Why do Republican leaders deny what is going on? So naive,” Trump tweeted Monday.
