Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Kaine is slamming Donald Trump after he refused to say during the final presidential debate that he would accept the results of the election.
{mosads}”Well it was a shocker,” the Virginia senator said Thursday on CNN’s “New Day.” “There were other shockers last night, but that was the biggest one.”
Kaine during the interview referenced his experiences working as a missionary in Honduras 35 years ago.
“It was a military dictatorship. And I learned from that experience that the acceptance of the outcome of an election and the peaceful transfer of power is a pillar of our nation’s democracy,” Kaine said.
“And after an insult-driven campaign, where Donald has insulted virtually everybody, now he’s trying to pull the central pillar down.”
Kaine said he doesn’t understand why the GOP nominee would do that, mentioning one exception that his running mate, Hillary Clinton, has pointed out.
“If he thinks things are going against him, if he thinks he’s going to lose, he’s going to claim it’s all rigged against him,” Kaine said.
“He did it with the Emmy Awards … he even tried to argue last night that the Emmy Award was wrong and he should have won it,” Kaine continued.
“He can’t take responsibility and that’s an important trait.”
Kaine also said the GOP nominee would “whine” if he loses the presidential election but noted that if the “mandate is clear, I don’t think many people will follow him.”
“It’s just this inability to accept responsibility is at the core of this,” Kaine said.
