Senior Trump aide: ‘Voter fraud is real’

Just hours before the third and final presidential debate, a senior aide to the Donald Trump campaign insisted that voter fraud is a real issue in the U.S.

{mosads}”Voter fraud is real. It exists,” senior communicators adviser Jason Miller told MSNBC’s Chuck Todd on Wednesday evening.

“What [Trump] is saying is, we have a rigged system right now. And when it comes to voter integrity, we want to make sure that the right people are voting. People who are registered to vote, and it’s lawful for them to vote. We want everyone who’s able to to be able to vote.”

As Trump sinks in the polls, he has pushed the idea that a loss in November would be the fault of widespread voter fraud.

But the narrative has been rejected by Republican leaders, including House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.)

And Trump’s own campaign manager said Wednesday there doesn’t appear to be an issue with voter fraud in the U.S.

“Absent overwhelming evidence that there is, it would not be for me to say that there is,” Kellyanne Conway said on MSNBC.

But Trump shows no sign of pulling back the accusations.

“Of course there is large scale voter fraud happening on and before election day,” Trump tweeted Monday morning.

“Why do Republican leaders deny what is going on? So naive!”
