Eric Trump: Took ‘courage’ to avoid Bill Clinton’s infidelity in debate

Eric Trump said it took “courage” for his father, Donald Trump, to refrain from going after Hillary Clinton’s husband during Monday’s presidential debate.

“It would have been very easy for him to take the bait, especially with that last question when they asked about sexism and other things,” Eric Trump said Tuesday in a radio interview with Simon Conway in Iowa highlighted by BuzzFeed. The interview followed the first bout between Republican nominee Donald Trump and Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.

{mosads}”He said it when he came off the debate stage, ‘I wasn’t gonna respond to that question because I saw Chelsea in the front row and I just wasn’t gonna go there out of respect for her,'” Eric Trump said of the Clintons’ daughter.

Donald Trump told CNN after the debate that he chose not to bring up Bill Clinton’s past “indiscretions” out of respect for the former president’s daughter.

“Maybe I’ll tell you at the next debate. We’ll see,” Trump said.

“That was a big moment for me,” Eric Trump said later, describing the decision as “probably something I’ll always remember.”

“He really took the high ground where he had the opportunity to go very, very low. And I’m proud of him for doing that,” he continued.

“I think that took a lot of courage in so many regards, and I think he really answered that well and took the high ground and kept the high road.”

Trump’s campaign manager, Kellyanne Conway, said the businessman was prepared to bring up Bill Clinton’s history of marital infidelity but made a “split-second” decision to not do it on Monday night.

“I think he could have gone a lot of directions with her that he chose not to go out of respect,” Eric Trump said.
