Gary Johnson holding pre-debate online event

Libertarian presidential nominee Gary Johnson may not be on the debate stage Monday night, but he is taking advantage of the interest surrounding it by hosting his own event nearby.

Johnson will appear with his running mate, former Massachusetts Gov. Bill Weld, to answer questions from followers in a Facebook Live video broadcast from New York’s Chelsea district at 6 p.m., his campaign said.

{mosads}The online event will come hours before Republican nominee Donald Trump and Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton take to the stage 30 miles away at Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y., in the first of three scheduled debates. No third-party candidates met the polling threshold to be invited to that event.  

Johnson, who has said he’ll try to get on stage for the remaining two debates, will be watching Monday night’s debate between Trump and Clinton from Twitter’s offices in Chelsea, according to his campaign.

Green Party nominee Jill Stein, who was also excluded from the first debate, will appear for a live stream outside Hofstra on Monday night as the debate starts at 9 p.m., her campaign said. 

Independent presidential candidate Evan McMullin, meanwhile, has used Monday night’s debate to fundraise for his campaign.

The Clinton-Trump debate will be broadcast on all the major network and cable news channels and is expected to draw a huge audience.
