Glenn Beck: Cruz backing Trump ‘profoundly sad’

Glenn Beck on Friday voiced sorrow over Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) endorsing Donald Trump for the presidency.

“[This is] a profoundly sad day for me,” he wrote on Facebook. “Disappointment does not begin to describe.

{mosads}“Maybe it is time to go to the mountains for a while,” the conservative commentator added. “Again, disappointment doesn’t even begin to describe my feelings.”

Beck, who supported Cruz over Trump in the GOP’s presidential primaries, added he fears for the nation’s future.

“America is an idea, not a country,” he said. “When we discuss the destruction of our country, that is vastly different than the destruction of an idea. I fear the idea is already lost, due to the panic of losing one’s comfort and country.

“The founders meant it much differently when they said: join or die. Welcome to the big tent. GOP / DNC 2016 join or die. Long live the idea of the republic.”

Cruz earlier Friday endorsed Trump, a stunning reversal after months spent refusing to back the Republican presidential nominee.

“Our country is in crisis,” Cruz wrote on Facebook. “Hillary Clinton is manifestly unfit to be president, and her policies would harm millions of Americans. And Donald Trump is the only thing standing in her way.

“A year ago, I pledged to endorse the Republican presidential nominee, and I am honoring that commitment. And if you don’t want to see a Hillary Clinton presidency, I encourage you to vote for him.”

Cruz refrained from endorsing Trump after their at-times heated race for the nomination.

Beck was fiercely critical of Trump during the contest, even suggesting in March “no real Christian” would back the billionaire.

The radio host predicted in May, however, Trump would ultimately defeat Clinton, the Democratic presidential nominee.
