Poll: Trump has 1-point lead in Florida

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and Democratic rival Hillary Clinton are locked in a close race in the must-win state of Florida, according to a Suffolk University poll released Thursday, with Trump up by a single point.

{mosads}Trump is favored by 45 percent of likely voters in Florida and Clinton is backed by 44 percent, according to the poll.

Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson is backed by 3 percent and Green Party pick Jill Stein has the support of 1 percent of likely voters.

In the same poll taken in early August, Clinton had a 4-point lead over her Republican rival in a four-way matchup. This month polls have been tightening as both major-party nominees make their final push ahead of the general election.

The Suffolk poll also finds that 47 percent of Florida voters think Clinton is most likely to be elected president in November and 38 percent think Trump is most likely to win the White House.

Clinton leads Trump among women, 50 percent to 40 percent, and Trump leads among men, 51 percent to 36 percent. 

Among Trump voters, 54 percent of respondents said this is “the most important election of my life.” Among those supporting the Democratic nominee, 45 percent gave the same answer.

The poll was conducted among 500 likely Florida voters from Sept. 19 to 21. The margin of error is 4.4 percent.

According to the RealClearPolitics average polls, the two candidates are basically tied, with Trump leading by 0.1 percent, 45 percent to 44.9 percent.
