U.S. and European trade officials on Thursday set the next round of talks on the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) deal for early October in New York.

U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman met with European Union Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmström in Brussels to discuss moving forward with negotiations but announced no firm plans for completing the agreement.

{mosads}”We had a good meeting where we reviewed the substantial progress being made and discussed next steps for moving forward,” Froman and Malmström said in a joint statement.

“We have directed our teams to make as much progress as possible during the next round,” they said.

The two trade leaders have said that they wanted to complete the TTIP deal before the end of President Obama’s term but that goal has become more difficult to achieve.

The United Kingdom’s decision to leave the EU among other trade and business concerns have created a less than favorable atmosphere for the two trading partners to complete the agreement.
