Dem drops out of race for Boehner’s old seat

The Democrat running for former House Speaker John Boehner’s Ohio seat has dropped out of the race, leaving newly elected Rep. Warren Davidson (R) as the only candidate currently in the race.

{mosads}An elections official in Butler County confirmed to The Associated Press on Tuesday that Corey Foister has withdrawn from the race.

“This is the wrong election cycle, the wrong place and the wrong race,” Foister wrote in a social media post, adding that he’ll remain in politics in a different state.

Davidson won the June special election to replace Boehner and will serve out the remainder of his term until the November election. The conservative businessman won a crowded 15-way GOP primary in March.

The western Ohio district is considered a safe Republican seat.

Jocelyn Bucaro, chairwoman of the Butler County Democratic Party, said the party is looking into getting another candidate but noted the time constraints of getting someone else on the ballot.

“We would love to have a candidate,” Bucaro said at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, according to the AP. “We’d like to give the voters a real choice, but we don’t know if we can get a candidate on the ballot in time.”

But whether or not Davidson gets a competitor this fall, he said he plans to meet constituents within his district.

“We’re going to make our best effort to be out there,” he said.
