A Bold Choice for Vice President
I’ve noticed over the past day or so that many of the chattering heads on television predict that John McCain will make a “bold” or “inspired” move to select Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) as his vice presidential running mate. I’ve long admired Sen. Lieberman for his courage and conviction regardless of his party affiliation. I’d still like to believe that Sen. McCain (Ariz.) can find a solid Republican to run beside him on the ticket, however.
Then I started to think: Why is it so bold and inspired for McCain to choose Lieberman? Shouldn’t this label apply to the choice Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) is soon to make? The mainstream media outlets would rave about the choice of Lieberman for the Republican ticket, but I wonder what their response would be if Sen. Obama chose a conservative, pro-life Republican as his running mate. How about fellow Sens. John Cornyn (R-Texas) or Jim DeMint (R-S.C.)? Would the media find the choice equally bold or inspiring? Just a passing thought.
