Apple CEO to host Ryan fundraiser

Apple CEO Tim Cook will host a fundraiser with Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) next week.

Cook plans to conduct a private breakfast alongside Ryan on June 28 in Menlo Park, Calif., according to Politico.

{mosads}Politico reported Monday that Gary Wipfler, Apple’s treasurer, also expects to participate in the fundraiser.

Any funds raised will benefit both Ryan and a joint fundraising committee aimed at helping elect other House Republicans.

Cook is hosting the event on his own accord, Politico reported, as Apple lacks a corporate political action committee like rivals Google and Facebook, among others.

Apple has provided aid to both Democratic and Republican nominating events during previous election cycles.

Reports emerged over the weekend that Apple is pulling its funding and support of next month’s Republican National Convention in Cleveland.

Apple purportedly opposes presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump and his rhetoric regarding the tech giant.

Trump last February called for a boycott of Apple products over the company’s refusal to help the FBI unlock an iPhone used by one of the perpetrators of the San Bernardino, Calif., terrorist attack.

“What I think you ought to do is boycott Apple until such time they give the security number,” he said during a Feb. 19 rally in South Carolina. “I just thought of it. Boycott Apple.”

Cook in March said his company’s resistance to a backdoor in its products is about preventing government overreach in technology.

“The way I look at it is, Apple is this great American company that only could have happened here,” he said on March 17.

“And we see it as our responsibility to stand up to something like this and speak up for all these people that are thinking what we’re thinking but don’t have the voice.”
