Obama’s New Ad: Way Below the Belt

A few moments ago, a spokesman from the Obama campaign repeated again and again that Sen. McCain was out of touch with the American people because he (McCain) could not use a computer. To wit, Obama has a new television ad on the screen of late that notes that Sen. McCain came to Washington in 1982 and remains out of touch with the American people. A mocking narrator intones that McCain can’t use a computer and he is unable to use e-mail.

While I’m reluctant to launch personal attacks, the behavior of Obama spokesman Bill Burton was reprehensible. With an arrogant, sneering demeanor, Burton refused to admit to Fox News anchor Bill Hemmer that the reason McCain is unable to use a computer is the result of lasting damage of the torture inflicted on McCain by his captors in North Vietnam. The Campaign for Change, the New Hope for America that is being bandied about by Sen. Obama has now reached a new low in its attempt to say anything for its “enlightened” candidate to become the next president of the United States.

Let’s rewind the clock to the 1970s, when Sen. McCain was being beaten day after day — his body hung from the ceiling with his arms tied behind him. Let’s rewind to when Sen. McCain refused early release from his captors due to his special status as the son of a famous admiral.

McCain’s rationale? First POW in, First POW out — no special treatment. Following his release from prison and to this day, Sen. McCain is unable to raise his arms or perform simple tasks like combing his hair or typing on a computer keyboard without pain. Did Sen. Obama know that before he put up his snarky ad on television? For that matter, what was Sen. Obama doing in the late ’60s and early ’70s while McCain toiled in prison to serve his country?

Now we fast-forward the clock 2008, when a candidate running for president on a message of a new hope and change for the country approves advertisements mocking the inability of an American war hero to type or use a computer because the injuries suffered by Sen. McCain rendered him unable to do so without significant pain.

The Democrats have become unhinged in recent weeks, and this despicable ad is only the latest confirmation of their new desperation. With 50 days to go till Election Day, Obama has reached a new low in his attempt to curry favor with the voters. I dread to see what he’ll say or do next to win — attacking the inability of a decorated war hero to type is just too far beneath the belt for me to fathom.
