TSA: Long airport lines to continue despite increased funding

The head of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) sayslong airport security lines are likely to continue through the travel season this summer, despite increased funding from Congress.

{mosads}”I think this summer is going to continue to be a challenge,” Peter Neffenger said Friday at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport, according to the Associated Press.

“I think we’re doing everything we can to mitigate that from the larger standpoints. I think you’ll still see crowds in airports. My goal is to keep you moving. We can’t have a situation like we had here in Chicago.”

Congress recently approved $34 million to be shifted to the TSA in order to approve new overtime for employees and hire 768 more security screeners. Neffenger called the new funds a “good down payment,” but said that more money would be needed.

Frustration with the long airport lines has spilled into Congress. Sen. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) called on Neffenger to resign if he doesn’t find a way to mitigate the crisis by Memorial Day weekend.
