Christie’s approval rating hits record low

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s approval rating has dropped to a record low, according to a new poll.

Sixty-four percent of Garden State voters disapprove of Christie’s performance, while just 29 percent approve — his lowest approval rating ever, according to Quinnipiac University.

{mosads}Christie performs better among Republicans, with 59 percent approving of his job performance and 34 percent disapproving. Among Democrats, 86 percent disapprove and just 9 percent approve.

Meanwhile, 72 percent of New Jersey voters and 64 percent of Republicans say presumptive GOP presidential nominee Trump shouldn’t pick Christie as his running mate.

“Christie-for-President was a flop and, as far as the local folks are concerned, so is Christie-for-Vice President. Forget local pride, New Jersey voters say overwhelmingly; they don’t want their Gov on a Trump ticket,” said Quinnipiac University Poll Assistant Director Maurice Carroll.

“It’s a drastic decline in popularity for a governor who once looked like a strong choice for president,” Carroll added.

New Jersey newspapers have called for Christie to resign, saying he’s an “embarrassment” and “utter disgrace” for backing Trump and “continuing travel out of state on New Jersey’s dime.”

Christie spent 72 percent of 2015 outside of New Jersey as he ran for the Republican presidential nomination, according to reports, and this year he continues to travel as he stumps for Trump on the campaign trail.
