Cruz fundraises off Boehner attacks
Ted Cruz is highlighting recent criticism from former House Speaker John Boehner in a new fundraising pitch for his 2018 Senate campaign.
Cruz’s email pitch to supporters said Boehner’s attacks proved the importance of his fight.
{mosads}”Remember when he called me ‘Lucifer in the flesh?’ Well, he didn’t think that was far enough. Now the ringleader of the Washington Cartel is celebrating our defeat by saying, ‘thank God that guy from Texas didn’t win,'” Cruz wrote, noting both Boehner’s previous critiques as well as new ones made this week.
“This is just another sign that the establishment in Washington has learned nothing over the past year. The truth of the matter is they won’t stop attacking me, because they know I won’t stop fighting for you.”
The pitch is the latest sign that Cruz won’t lift his foot off the campaign pedal after ending his presidential bid last week.
It’s not the first time he’s fundraised off Boehner’s remarks. His presidential campaign sent out a fundraising pitch last month after Boehner made the “Lucifer” remark.
The two never saw eye-to-eye in Congress, sharply disagreeing over Cruz’s role in the 2013 push to defund ObamaCare, which led to a politically costly government shutdown.
