DOJ: ‘Psychics’ scammed people out of $180 million
The Department of Justice (DOJ) is shutting down what it says was an international ring of fraudulent “psychics.”
{mosads}The psychics claimed they could help people win the lottery and become wealthy and allegedly scammed people out of more than $180 million, according to the DOJ.
They sent letters to more than 1 million people requesting payment for information about their visions, officials said.
“In reality, the solicitations are identical, mass produced form letters sent to tens of thousands of recipients throughout the United States every month,” the Justice Department said.
The psychics agreed to end the alleged mail-fraud scheme as part of a settlement the DOJ announced Monday.
