Poll: Sanders trails Clinton by double digits in California
Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton leads rival Bernie Sanders by 10 points in California, according to a Capitol Weekly poll released on Tuesday.
{mosads}Among likely Democratic voters, Clinton leads with 49 percent support, with Sanders lagging at 39 percent.
The findings roughly mirror RealClearPolitics’s average of polls in the state, which puts the former secretary of State at 51 percent and the Vermont senator at 41.3.
Tuesday’s poll also shows that Sanders remains dominant among independent voters. Voters with no party preference in California favor him by 15 points.
And among newly registered voters, Sanders leads 67 percent to 27 percent, the poll found.
Still, that edge may not be enough to counter Clinton’s high favorability ratings among black and Hispanic voters.
The poll surveyed 1,617 people between April 28 and May 1.
California, which has 475 delegates up for grabs, holds its primary on June 7.
