Monday: Energy vote
The Senate will continue work Monday on an energy and water appropriations bill.
The Senate is scheduled to convene at 3 p.m., with senators voting on an amendment from Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) to the funding bill at 5:30 p.m.
{mosads}Murray’s amendment would ban funds from being used to buy welded shipboard anchor and mooring chains that don’t comply with federal acquisition rules.
The vote comes as lawmakers hope to wrap up work on the appropriations bill — the Senate’s first of the year — early this week. Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.), who is managing the bill for Republicans, suggested late last week that he wanted to get a deal to skip over procedural hurdles ahead of a final vote.
Additional amendment votes are expected.
If the legislation passes the Senate this week, it will still need to be merged with a bill from the House. The lower chamber isn’t able to bring up appropriations bills until May 15 unless it manages to pass a budget first.
The House is not in session on Monday.
