Lawmakers celebrate Jackie Robinson Day

Lawmakers took to Twitter to celebrate Jackie Robinson Day, in honor of the iconic player who broke Major League Baseball’s color barrier.

{mosads}Since 2004, MLB has celebrated Robinson’s achievement every April 15th, the anniversary of his first opening day for the Brooklyn Dodgers.

Here’s how some lawmakers paid tribute to the Dodgers number 42 on social media:

 

Rep. Derek Kilmer (D-Wash.) tweeted a picture of a ticket stub from Robinson’s first game.

 

Rep. Diana DeGette (D-Colo.), a Colorado Rockies fan, shared an inspirational quote.

 

Dubbed the “Babe Ruth of Congress” by The New York Times, Rep. Cedric Richmond (D-La.) shared a photo of him rocking the number 42 in a Dodgers uniform from the annual Congressional baseball game.

 

Ohio Dems Rep. Joyce Beatty and Sen. Sherrod Brown took a moment to reflect on how Robinson changed history.

 

Rep. Bill Foster (D-Ill.) also shared an inspirational quote.

 

Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.) commemorated the special day on the House floor.

 

Rep. Lacy Clay (D-Mo.) thanked Robinson for his courage.

 

Rep. Scott Perry (R-Pa.) also paid tribute to Robinson’s legacy.
