Thursday: Aviation bill, appropriations

The Senate will take a procedural vote on its long-term reauthorization of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) programs as it tries to wrap up its work this week.

The Senate is scheduled to vote on whether or not to end debate on a key amendment to the legislation. No other votes are currently scheduled, but senators are hoping to finish work on the bill this week.

{mosads}The move comes after lawmakers dropped plans to include a package of energy tax breaks in the bill.

Democrats quickly blamed Republicans, suggesting they were caving to pressure from Charles and David Koch, the politically influential billionaire brothers.

“It’s highly likely that if every Democrat had voted for the tax provision there wouldn’t have been the 60 votes,” Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) said. “They just didn’t have the votes.”

Meanwhile, the House will take a vote on two pieces of legislation, including a proposal to include the Financial Stability Oversight Council (FSOC) and the Office of Financial Research (OFR) in the annual appropriations process.

Votes in the House are expected between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m.
