Tuesday: Aviation bill, Zika virus

The Senate will continue debating its long-term reauthorization of Federal Aviation Administration programs.

Senators adopted approximately a dozen amendments to the legislation on Monday evening.

{mosads}The aviation legislation green-lights FAA programs through September 2017, after Congress sent a short-term bill to President Obama’s desk last month.

Senators have been working to get a deal to get a package of energy tax extenders, backed by Democrats, included in the legislation.

But the move is drawing opposition from conservative outside groups, who are threatening to ramp up their opposition to the language if it is included in the aviation bill.

No votes are currently scheduled in the Senate, but lawmakers are expected to recess from 12:30 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. for weekly policy lunches.

Meanwhile, the House will convene at 2 p.m. for legislative business.

House lawmakers will vote on a handful of proposals at 6:30 p.m., including legislation to bolster research for a Zika virus vaccines or treatments.
