Tuesday: FAA debate, policy lunches
The Senate is moving toward a long-term reauthorization of Federal Aviation Administration programs.
Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) filed cloture Monday evening on proceeding to a House-passed bill that will be used as the vehicle for the Senate’s work.
{mosads}That sets up a first procedural vote for Wednesday, unless senators can get a deal to speed up their work.
Congress sent a short-term bill to President Obama’s desk last month, ahead of a March 31 deadline, authorizing FAA programs and the ability to collect aviation taxes through July 15.
But lawmakers are still hoping to complete work on a long-term proposal. The Senate Commerce Committee passed legislation last month that would green light FAA programs through September 2017.
No votes are currently scheduled in the Senate. Lawmakers will recess from 12:30 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. for weekly party lunches.
The House is not in session.
