Canada’s prime minister to Americans: Pay more attention to the world

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says his country wishes Americans paid more attention to what’s happening around the world, including with their neighbors to the north.

“It might be nice if they paid a little more attention to the world,” Trudeau told “60 Minutes” in an interview airing Sunday, when asked what Canadians don’t like about the U.S.

{mosads}”Having a little more of an awareness of what’s going on in the rest of the world, I think is, is what many Canadians would hope for Americans,” Trudeau continued, according to a transcript from The Associated Press.

President Obama will host Trudeau for a formal dinner at the White House on March 10. The 44-year-old Liberal Party leader won Canada’s premiership in a landslide election last year.

The pair appear to already have a chummy relationship. Obama reportedly told Trudeau to address him by his first name in a congratulatory call after the election victory. The pair met later during a trip to the Philippines.

Trudeau told CBS that Canadians must pay attention to the U.S. given its importance, according to the AP, adding, “I think we sometimes like to think that, you know, Americans will pay attention to us from time to time, too.”
