Polls: Kasich last in Michigan

Donald Trump dominates in Michigan, while John Kasich trails the GOP field, according to a pair of polls released ahead of next week’s primary.

Trump takes 29 percent support among likely GOP primary voters in a Detroit Free Press poll, followed by Ted Cruz, at 19 percent, and Marco Rubio, at 18 percent.

{mosads}Kasich, the governor of neighboring Ohio who’s trying to lean on support in the Midwest, takes just 8 percent, tying with Ben Carson, who is expected to formally suspend his campaign Friday.

The Ohio governor also trails his three top rivals in another Michigan poll from Mitchell/Fox 2, taking 12 percent behind Cruz, at 14 percent; Rubio, at 19 percent; and Trump, at 39 percent.

The polls come ahead of Thursday night’s GOP debate in Detroit as the candidates look to derail Trump, who has racked up delegates in a series of wins, including on Super Tuesday this week.

The Free Press survey of 400 likely GOP primary voters was conducted Saturday through Monday with a margin of error of 4.9 percentage points.

The Mitchell survey of 679 likely GOP primary voters was conducted on Tuesday with a margin of error of 3.76 percentage points.
