Hillary hits Trump over David Duke controversy: ‘I was very disappointed’

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton on Tuesday criticized Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump over his response to the support he received from white nationalist David Duke.

{mosads}”I was very disappointed that he did not disavow what appears to be support from David Duke and from the Ku Klux Klan,” Clinton told reporters at a Minnesota polling place.

“That is exactly the kind of statement that should be repudiated upon hearing it. We can’t let organizations and individuals who hold deplorable views about what it means to be an American to be given any credence at all.”

Clinton said she will speak up against bigotry and urged other Americans to do the same.

Trump on Sunday morning refused to condemn the racism of Duke and the KKK during an interview on CNN. When asked on CNN’s “State of the Union,” he said he didn’t know about Duke, a former KKK grand wizard, and would need to do more research.

Duke had previously told listeners on his radio show to vote for and volunteer for Trump.

Trump later blamed his response on a “lousy earpiece,” saying he could barely hear what he was being asked.

Trump also told CNN he had already disavowed Duke.

“I’ve disavowed David Duke all weekend long on Facebook and Twitter, but it’s obviously never enough,” Trump said. “I disavowed David Duke the day before in a major news conference.”
