Mark Cuban: Trump a ‘longshot’ for White House
Mark Cuban says he thinks fellow billionaire Donald Trump is still a “longshot” for the White House and hopes other candidates enter the race.
Cuban said that Trump has started to “tone it down” in an interview on WABC’s “The Rita Cosby Show” on Tuesday.
{mosads}”He’s kind of a calmed down some. And so I think, you know, if, if by chance he does get elected – and I still think that’s a longshot – then I think he’d certainly calm it down and certainly be more self-aware,” Cuban said.
“I still don’t think we know who all the final candidates are going to be,” the Dallas Mavericks owner said, explaining why he was downplaying Trump’s odds.
Cuban noted that former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is eyeing a potential third-party bid.
“I think, depending on what happens in the Democratic Party, Joe Biden potentially could get in and so, you know, looking at the cast of candidates we have right now, might not be the final list that we may have the opportunity to vote for,” Cuban said.
Cuban questioned whether Bloomberg might be “too meek” to win the White House this year, despite saying that he personally wanted to see the media mogul launch a bid.
“You know, can he shout loud enough? Certainly in the business world he’s far from meek, and he can handle himself in any circumstances, and he’s proven that when he was mayor,” said Cuban.
“But in this election, the way things are running right now, being loud unfortunately means something and it takes a force of voice to stand out, particularly on the Republican side.”
Cuban has repeatedly weighed in on Trump’s White House bid. He said earlier this month that he would be a better president than Trump but that he wanted to stay in the private sector.
A recent poll shows Trump up big in South Carolina ahead of that state’s Saturday primary.
Trump took second to Sen. Ted Cruz (Texas) in Iowa, before winning by double digits in New Hampshire earlier this month.
