Bush: Rubio accomplished ‘nothing’ in the Senate
Republican presidential hopeful Jeb Bush on Friday said his primary rival and former Florida protégé Marco Rubio hasn’t accomplished anything during his term in the Senate.
{mosads}“Nothing. I mean, the list they put out has been debunked, not just by me, by other people,” Bush said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” referring to a list of achievements put out by the Rubio campaign.
Bush tore into the list the day after former White House candidate Rick Santorum backed Rubio on the program but struggled to name any highlights from the senator’s résumé.
“Well, his list of fighting for additional sanctions for Hezbollah, which was done by unanimous consent, unanimously, literally, where he didn’t show up to vote,” Bush said. “That was one of them.”
“So his record of accomplishment is slim,” the former governor added.
Bush said the American people need a commander in chief who isn’t just pursuing his “blind ambition.”
“They need someone to be on their side, not someone pursuing their own blind ambition,” he said. “Marco is a talented politician. He got elected when he was 26 years old. People love him, and I do, too. He’s a great guy. But he’s not a leader.”
“Leadership matters, in this job particularly,” he added. “You need a commander in chief that has a steady hand, that’s had adversity in their life, that’s had setbacks and understands how you make tough decisions.”
