Dunham, Wambach stump for Clinton

Actress Lena Dunham and retired U.S. soccer hero Abby Wambach pitched Hillary Clinton to female voters in New Hampshire on Friday.

Dunham and Wambach are stumping for the Democratic presidential front-runner about a month ahead of the first-in-the-nation primary. The pair attended a “Women for Hillary” event in Portsmouth on Friday.

{mosads}Dunham, the creator and star of HBO’s “Girls,” told the crowd that she’s “embarrassed” she didn’t vote until age 22.

“I encourage young women to vote as soon as they can,” Dunham said, adding that they should “use voting as a way to affirm your power, your influence, your perspective.”

She rattled off a litany of issues that Clinton supports, including access to birth control, abortion rights and paid family leave. “She told us all that women’s rights are humans rights.”

Dunham also denounced people who accuse the actress of wanting to vote for Clinton because of her gender.

“Nothing gets me angrier than saying I’m voting for Hillary because she’s a woman,” Dunham said, calling the claim “misogynistic.” She said that her support for Clinton stems from her policies as well as her pantsuits.

Wambach, who recently retired from the U.S. national soccer team, touted the former secretary of State as “smart” and praised her stamina.

“It’s imperative that you vote. I want you to vote for Hillary. It’s time for women to be seen as real equals,” Wambach said. “That is one hell of a badass woman in my opinion.”

Wambach said that everyone has “innately” accepted that women get paid unequally and are afforded less opportunity than men.

“Enough is enough,” Wambach said. “If we can have the leader of our country be a woman, we will be setting ourselves up for real, true equality.”

Wambach retired from soccer in December, after the U.S. women’s team won first place in the World Cup last summer. She holds the record for most goals scored in international competition by a man or woman.
