Friday: Spending bill, tax package

The House is expected to finish its work Friday morning on a 2,009-page spending bill as lawmakers prepare to head for exits until next year.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), however, voiced concern on Thursday that the spending package could fall short of the votes need to pass on Friday, even as White House officials and Democratic leadership pressed wary members to back the legislation.

{mosads}House lawmakers are expected to convene at 9 a.m., with votes between 9:15 a.m. and 10:15 a.m., after starting debate on the omnibus legislation on Thursday.

Meanwhile, senators will take up the omnibus and a separate tax package once it is sent over from the House.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) announced on Thursday that leadership had gotten a deal to speed up the votes. Under the agreement, the two pieces of legislation, which the Senate will move together to save time, will get up to three procedural votes and then a vote on final passage.

The timing of the Senate’s vote is unclear.
