Top Huckabee aide leaves campaign

A top aide to Mike Huckabee has left the former Arkansas governor’s presidential campaign.

{mosads}The campaign confirmed communication director Alice Stewart’s departure in a brief statement Monday.

“Alice Stewart is no longer with the Huckabee for President campaign. Hogan Gidley will handle all media operations moving forward,” the statement read.

Stewart served as Huckabee’s press secretary in 2008, when he won the Iowa caucuses and carried seven other states.

Stewart’s departure is another sign of trouble for Huckabee, who has struggled to gain traction in this year’s presidential race and is set to be on the undercard for the second straight time in Tuesday night’s debate.

He has seen Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) surge ahead in Iowa.

Huckabee hasn’t hit double digits in any national poll since May.
