Sunday shows preview: Kerry discusses climate deal

Secretary of State Kerry will debrief the nation on the historic Paris climate accord when he sits down for a pair of interviews on Sunday political talk shows this week.

World leaders on Saturday adopted the historic measure at the COP21 climate talks, the first-ever agreement to commit almost every nation to the fight against climate change.

{mosads}Other global affairs will also drive the day, as several experts in U.S. intelligence will join the shows to discuss the continued effort against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

Republican primary candidates will also get their share of the Sunday morning limelight, with appearances from four GOP presidential hopefuls on the day.

To top the morning off, CNN will release the lineup for its Tuesday night Republican presidential debate, unveiling which candidates made the main stage for the fifth GOP debate from Las Vegas.

Here are the rest of Sunday’s expected guests:

ABC’s “This Week”: Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson headlines the program amid a recent slide in the polls. The GOP presidential candidate will try to convince viewers that he has the requisite foreign policy expertise to lead the nation in a time of war.

CBS’ “Face the Nation”: Kerry sits down to discuss the climate negotiations, followed by Ohio Gov. John Kasich, another Republican White House candidate.

Frances Townsend, former homeland security advisor to President George W. Bush, will join the program to discuss the state of national security, followed by Farah Pandith, former State Department Special Representative to Muslim Communities, who will likely address GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump’s proposal to ban Muslim immigration to the country.

Senate Intelligence Committee Chair Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.) will also weigh in on the state of international affairs, followed by pollster Frank Luntz, who will reveal the results from his Trump focus group to find out what makes the businessman impervious to the normal rules of politics.

CNN’s “State of the Union”: The program will air a taped interview with Trump, in which he says the GOP loyalty pledge he signed is a “double deal.”

The main stage for Las Vegas GOP debate will also be revealed.

“Fox News Sunday”: Kerry headlines the program to discuss the climate accord, which does not contain any legally binding provisions to ensure countries comply with the promises in the agreement.

Trump will also appear in his second taped interview, in which he says he is confident he will win the Republican primary, followed by Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), a member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.

NBC’s “Meet the Press”: Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) will appear on the program amid renewed attacks on a 2016 rival — Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) — whom he has accused of weakening the state of U.S. intelligence.

A new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll will also be revealed on the program.
