Monday: Judicial nomination, payments

Senators will vote on a judicial nomination on Monday evening.

The Senate will convene at 2 p.m. for leader remarks and morning business. Senators will move to debate on Travis Randall McDonough’s nomination to be a U.S. district judge for the eastern district of Tennessee at 5 p.m. A vote is expected at 5:30 p.m.

Democrats have repeatedly criticized Republicans over the pace of nominations this year.

Lawmakers will also likely continue to debate an overhaul of the Bush-era No Child Left Behind law ahead of a procedural vote on Tuesday. The legislation, which comes eight years after the original law expired, would transfer more decision-making authority back to the state and local governments.

Meanwhile, House lawmakers will convene at noon for morning hour and 2 p.m. for legislative business. They’ll consider two bills under suspension of the rules, including one proposal aimed at cracking down on “improper” payments from the federal government.

No votes are currently scheduled in the House.
