Feinstein: Obama plan in Syria ‘won’t do it’

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) says President Obama’s plan to send 50 special operations troops to Syria to combat the Islamic State in Syria (ISIS) is not enough.

“The special forces are limited, I think, to 50. That won’t do it,” she said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “If we’re really going to use special operations, quick in, quick out, you have to do it in a much more comprehensive way to get at ISIL.”

{mosads}The vice chair of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence said the impending fight against ISIS is not a matter of if, but when.

“I have said before, and I really believe it, we will fight then now, or we will fight them later, it’s only a question of time,” Feinstein said.

She said the growing consensus in the intelligence community is air strikes alone won’t be enough to defeat ISIS.

“This is a huge worldwide problem, and we’ve got to play a major role,” she added.

Feinstein also said there is a “strong probability” that a bomb planted by ISIS took down a Russian passenger plane last month in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula.

“I think there is a strong probability it was. I can’t say it’s dead-bang certain, but there’s a strong probability that it was,” she said.

She said she hoped the plane attack serves as a “wake-up call” for both Russia and the United States.
