Larry David returns to ‘SNL’ for another spoof of Bernie Sanders
Comedian Larry David brought back his spot-on impersonation of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) for the opening sketch of Donald Trump’s appearance on “Saturday Night Live.”
Answering questions from a faux Rachel Maddow, David satirized the liberal candidate, explaining that he would only accept campaign contributions in the form of pennies and nickels.
{mosads}“Rachel, the other candidates, they’re taking millions of dollars from the Koch brothers and Exxon Mobil, but not me,” David said. “I only accept coins. And I’m not talking about fancy coins like dimes and quarters. I just want nickels and pennies — the coins of the middle class.”
David took Sanders’ populism one step further, encouraging his supporters to go through their vacuum cleaners to find their most grimy coins to contribute to his presidential campaign.
“And Rachel, I don’t want new pennies, I’m talking about those old pennies that are so covered in hard, black gunk you can’t even read the date,” he said.
“So America, if you believe in Bernie, I need you to go home, open our closet, pull out your vacuum, dump it upside down, and send me all the pennies that fall out of it. That’s right, I’m Bernie Sanders, and I want your vacuum pennies.”
David’s Sanders also said he refuses to drive on bridges or through tunnels because of America’s crumbling infrastructure.
“Instead, I keep a kayak strapped to the top of my car,” he said. “Whenever I get to a bridge, I park, abandon my car, paddle to the other side. So if you ever see a soaking wet man pulling a kayak out of a river and screaming about bridges, give him a hand, because he’s your next president.”
David was joined in the skit by a faux Hillary Clinton, played by Kate McKinnon.
McKinnon as Clinton was asked whether she was more introverted or extroverted.
“Well, Rachel, I would say I’m a little bit of both,” McKinnon responded. “I’m an extrovert because I love meeting people and connecting with them and smiling with them, and I’m an introvert because, no I don’t.”
She added that “casual English” is the language she would most like to learn, adding she does not know how to use phrases such as “hang out” and “I’m good either way.”
