Trump: I wasn’t trying to insult Ben Carson’s religion

Republican front-runner Donald Trump claims he wasn’t trying to insult fellow GOP presidential candidate Ben Carson on the campaign trail in Florida when he questioned Carson’s religion as a Seventh-day Adventist.

On CBS’s “Face the Nation,” Trump told host John Dickerson that was he said was he didn’t know what a Seventh-day Adventist was.

“I’m not that familiar with it,” he said. “I’ve heard about it, but I’m not that familiar with it. That wasn’t meant to be an insult, obviously, it’s just that I don’t know about it.”

Dickerson asked if Trump, a Presbyterian, if his comments were an expression of ignorance or if he was raising questions about Carson’s religion.

“Well, it’s a harsh way of putting it, but perhaps I could say it that way, yes, because I just don’t know about, as I said, I don’t know about that.”
